AGREEMENT TO PARTICIPATE- I/we agrees to
participate in the 2009 Mardi Gras Parade at my/our own risk. I/We release the Kiwanis Club of Barstow, and
any member thereof, of all responsibility for loss, damage, or injury to any
person or property from my/our participation.
I/we further agree to accept the decision of the duly appointed judges
and abide by all rules and regulations of this event.

GENERAL INFORMATION AND RULES
All parade entries are to be decorated to follow
the parade theme of “Music
Leads Our Youth Forward”. All participants must be uniformed, costumed
or appropriately attired. VEHICLES MUST BE DECORATED and may not reach
a height of more than thirteen feet six inches (13’6”).
Any entry consisting of or expressing political
or social views will not be allowed to participate. Elected officials are welcome to ride in the
parade as a representative of their agency.
Candidates, including incumbents, for an elected office may not display
campaign materials while riding in the parade.
The parade will start promptly at 7:00 p.m. The parade route will start at Barstow Road
and Main Street and proceed east to Mountain View and Main Street. Receive your entry # & staging assignment
at Barstow Rd. and Mt. View at 3:00 p.m.
All entries should be in place no later than 5:30 p.m. Judging will be conducted between 5:45 and
6:30 p.m. Any entries not in place by
5:30 p.m. will not being judged.
During the parade, forward motion must be
consistently maintained. Do not stop and
perform along the parade route. If there
is a long gap in front of your entry, please attempt to close the gap. The audience will appreciate it.
Please no horns
or sirens on the parade route. PARTICIPANTS ARE NOT TO THROW, DISTRIBUTE OR
SPRAY ANYTHING ALONG THE PARADE ROUTE.
THIS IS A HAZARD TO CHILDREN RUNNING INTO THE STREET, OR SOMEONE
SLIPPING ON THE CANDY OR THROWN ITEM.
The Kiwanis Club of Barstow reserves the right
to accept or reject any application.
The entry deadline is Friday, October 16, 2009. All entry forms received after the deadline
may be rejected as late. All late entries will be placed at the end of the
parade.

AWARDS: Judging is based on criteria such as
creativity, effort, workmanship, etc.
The following awards will be given to floats:
Sweepstakes Plaque: The “best entry” in the parade
President’s Plaque: First runner up to the Sweepstakes Plaque
Theme Plaque: The
entry that best used this year’s theme
Division Plaque: First,
Second and Third place awards will be given to judged entries in all divisions.
Novelty Plaque: Entries
that do not qualify in other divisions.
FIRE DISTRICT CLEARANCE: All floats must obtain
a permit from the Barstow Fire District.
These are available for the parade at no charge. A written description is to be submitted to
the District when applying for the permit.
Electrical wiring for lights, etc., must be installed on the float in a
manner so as to prevent shorting or arcing of wires. Materials used on the float must be
noncombustible, and a fire extinguisher with a minimum rating of 2A:10BC must
be carried on the float. For more

EQUESTRIAN ENTRIES: All equestrian entries are
to report to the parking lot behind the Mercado Mall, where entry numbers will
be handed out. Judging will commence at
5:00 p.m.
BANDS: Main Street between Second Avenue and
Barstow Road will be closed at 6:00 p.m.
Band should report at 6:00 p.m. and line up on the north side of Main
Street facing East. Numbers will be
handed out at that location.
MILITARY: Main Street between Second Avenue and
Barstow Road will be closed at 6:00 p.m.
Military units should report at 6:00 p.m. and line up on the south side
of Main Street facing east. Numbers will
be handed out at that location.
